Hazardous Area Working

Hazardous Area Operation

ExA major safety concern in industrial plants is the occurrence of fires and explosions. No other aspect of industrial safety receives more attention in the form of codes, standards, technical papers, and engineering design. Regulatory bodies like the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) have established systems that classify locations which exhibit potentially dangerous conditions to the degree of hazard presented.

Please refer to your local authorised authority for a more detailed explanation and copy of regulations relating to your country.

TTS load cells can be used within a hazardous operation area by interfacing with a suitable zener barrier designed specifically for the purpose.

There are two manufacturers recommended by TTS whose products have been used many times in these types of application. TTS do not offer specific guidance as the subject can be quite complex. Both of the companies named below have the experts in this field and their products are well proven and embrace the certification to ensure safe operation.

There are additional considerations that need to be factored into the design of a load cell system coupled to zener barriers and TTS will be more than happy to provide the necessary knowledge to ensure your application works every time. Please contact us and speak to one of our engineers for more information.

Barrier P&F
Zener barriers provide cost saving Ex-protection for various applications in process automation systems. The amount of energy transferred to the hazardous location is limited to a safe level
incapable of igniting the explosive atmosphere.
Pepperl+Fuchs offers a wide product portfolio of housing and connection styles, which include DIN rail, termination board mounted, and accessories for each application.
